Bert in the Globe

Now, this Globe Theatre
Is a reconstruction
The first burned down
During a Henry VIII production!

Originally built
In 1599
The fire was in 1613
But everyone made it out fine!

The second theater was constructed
In 1614
But closed by Puritan pressure
Which to Bert, just seems mean!

After the theater was demolished
In 1644
Another was not built
Not for several years more

Sam Wanamaker's Dream

Sam Wanamaker’s Dream

Sam Wanamaker
Was an actor & director
His love for everything Shakespeare
Made him an avid collector

He founded the Shakespeare Globe Trust
And the International Globe Centre
It was 1970
When he began this venture

Recreating the Globe
Was one of Sam’s dreams
And to have it near the location
Of where the original had laid it’s beams

The Shakespeare Globe Theatre
Opened in ‘97
With a production of Henry V
And Sam watching from heaven

Yes, sadly Sam had passed
Before it was completed
But I’m sure he’d be proud
To see the theater fully seated!

And the influence of his plays
See the history of London
Back during Shakespeare’s days

Don’t forget to see a show!
They have them day & night
Each is so inspiring
You’ll want to rush home & write!
