Arc de Triomphe

Bert at the Arc de Triomphe!

Bert at the Arc de Triomphe!

Bert spots a roundabout
It’s the biggest he’s ever seen!
And square in the center
Is a monument so serene

The Arc de Triomphe
Is Bert’s next stop
Like Notre-Dame
It’s a long climb to the top!

This astounding monument
Honors the scores
Of those who died
During the French Revolutionary & Napoleonic Wars

The names of French Victories
And the Generals who fought
Are inscribed in the surfaces
So they’ll never be forgot.

Up the winding stairs
Bert starts his climb
Once he reaches the roof
What he sees is sublime!

Bert at the top!

From atop the Arc
There’s a 360 view
The sight is incredible
And would be hard to out-do

The monument stands
164 feet in height
And the sculptures on the sides
Are such an amazing sight

In 1806
Jean Chalgrin designed the Arc
Today it’s recognized
As a famous Parisian landmark

Bert pays his respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
Lies at the base
Unidentified remains
Are given a final resting place

There burns a flame
Which is never extinguished
So we remember these soldiers
Who were so distinguished

Now it’s time for Bert
To head back to the street
He still has so much to see
And many more people to meet

Bert loves the Arc de Triomphe!
